In December 2021 Tulsa Detective Darin Ehrenrich went on television and claimed that James Townes was a serial rapist. On August 17, 2021 those charges were dismissed against the Defendant. This case is a long list of cases in which the Det. Ehrenrich over promised (rapist or serial rapist) and under delivered (dismissed cost to state).
Townes is still facing a (30) thirty year probation revocation, trial in a robbery case and a third matter for possessing a firearm after former conviction of a felony. When asked for a comment the Defendant’s attorney, Keaton Taylor replied that the State, “. . could not get their witnesses there.” It appears from the outsider prospective that the State used this ‘serial’ allegation in order to make their other prosecutions of this Defendant easier.
Headlines originally rolled that “Investigators [are] Looking for More Victims after Sexual Assault Arrest.” News 9. And, “A man in Tulsa County Jail for sex crimes is believed to have more victims out there, police say.” News 23. Townes was held in lieu of a $250,000 (two hundred and fifty thousand dollar bond). Attorney Keaton Taylor is a private attorney in Tulsa Oklahoma.
Tulsa has more than three times the number of sexual assaults than New York City. Last year Tulsa had nearly 400 whereas New York City had 128. Previously this website noted that you were X10 more likely to be sexually assaulted in Tulsa Oklahoma than anywhere else. No one from the District Attorneys office could be reached for a comment as it was after 5 o’clock on a Friday when this article was written.
A quick search on OSCN.NET of Det. Ehrenrich yielded that he is being sued by Paul Tay. Tay v. City of Tulsa; Ehrenrich, Tulsa County CJ-2022-2612.
He is also being sued by Attorney Jeff Krigel, Mr. Tay’s attorney. Krigel v. Tulsa Police Department; Ehrenrich, Tulsa County CJ-2022-1790. Krigel is alleging Ehrenrich defamed him by calling him a ‘serial rapist’ in a case where there is a single count, Krigel’s three year live in on and off again girlfriend. The Tulsa World noted after the Preliminary Hearing that Krigel was stalked and this writer would add it appears Krigel was hunted like prey.
Krigel was not reached for a comment at this time. The City of Tulsa has not taken any official disciplinary action against Det. Ehrenrich at this time. It is believed there is at least one other soon to be
pending lawsuit as a rape defendant alleges negligence by Ehrenrich in his April 2022 jury trial against Tulsa District Attorney Ashley Nix, who a jury did not believe was raped. ADA Nix is currently the head of misdemeanor domestic violence in Tulsa Oklahoma.
